Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
